July 26, 2011 Less than one month to opening ceremonies. That's what over 400 U.S. athletes are thinking about as they enter the last month to prepare for the 2011 World University Games scheduled for August 12-23 in Shenzhen, China. This year's World University Games, an international multi-sport event organized for university athletes by the Federation of International Sport (FISU), will feature athletes from over 170 countries participating in 35 sports. The host city of Shenzhen is an ultra modern city of 14 million located in southern China approximately 30 miles from Hong Kong. "We are very excited about this summer's World University Games and all the experiences our athletes will encounter during their stay in the great city of Shenzhen," said Gary Cunningham, former director of athletics at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and current president of the United States - International University Sports Federation (US-IUSF) Board of Directors. "We have no doubt that this will be a unique opportunity that our athletes will remember for rest of their lives," he added. To learn more about the 2011 World University Games, go to wugusa.com.
